Deadpool and Wolverine’ First Trailer: Ryan Reynolds Breaks Into the MCU With Plenty of R-Rated Jokes

After nearly six years, the end of Fox’s “X-Men” movies and an acquisition by Disney, Deadpool is finally back — and he’s arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Deadpool 3” faced a four-month halt in production due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, pushing its release from May 3 to July 26. The franchise’s first film saw the anti-hero seeking vengeance against Ajax, while the sequel focused on Deadpool forming the X-Force to combat Cable. “Deadpool 2” shattered records upon its 2018 release, opening with $18.6 million in North America. Its predecessor also enjoyed immense success, debuting domestically at a groundbreaking $132.4 million for an R-rated film in 2016.

Director Shawn Levy shared in an essay for Esquire that “Deadpool 3” will feature an homage to the iconic “Star Wars” franchise, describing a pivotal scene as the film’s “Jedi moment.” Drawing inspiration from a memorable scene between Vader and Luke, Levy meticulously studied its cinematography and framing, aiming to capture its essence in his own work. His collaboration with Marvel on the project has reaffirmed the possibility of creating a deeply personal film within a vast cinematic universe, fulfilling both his and actor Ryan Reynolds’ vision for the movie.
