PM Modi Flags Off Amrit Bharat Express Links Malda to Bangalore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express, a new weekly train connecting Malda to Bangalore, fostering better connectivity between northern and southern India.

Uttar Pradesh Ayodhya, December 31, 2023 – In a significant stride to enhance connectivity between northern and southern regions of India, Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi inaugurated the Amrit Bharat Express, a new weekly train linking Malda to Bangalore. The maiden journey of the express train, adorned for the occasion, commenced from Malda Town Station on Saturday.

A substantial number of migrant workers from Malda district actively contribute to the southern states, particularly Karnataka. Recognizing the importance of facilitating travel for various purposes such as education, employment, and healthcare, the Amrit Bharat Express is poised to benefit residents in and around Malda.

Khagen Murmu, the BJP MP representing Malda (North), expressed optimism about the positive impact of the new train service. “The train will run once a week from Malda Town to SMVT (Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Terminal) in Bangalore,” he stated during the inaugural run ceremony at Malda Town Station.

Vikas Chaube, the Divisional Railway Manager of the Malda division of Eastern Railway, provided details about the train’s composition, mentioning that it includes twelve sleeper coaches, eight general coaches, and two coaches designed to accommodate physically challenged persons.

The Amrit Bharat Express is scheduled to depart from Malda every Sunday at 8:50 am, reaching Bangalore at 3 am on Tuesday. For the return journey, the train will leave Bangalore at 1:50 pm every Tuesday, arriving at Malda at 11 am on Thursday.

In addition to this development, the Balurghat-Sealdah Express is set to be flagged off from Balurghat on January 1. This daily service is expected to fill a crucial gap by establishing a direct train connection between Balurghat and Kolkata, enhancing accessibility for passengers traveling between these two destinations.
