PM Modi Hails Striking Progress: 24.82 Crore Indians Escape Multidimensional Poverty in 9 Years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauds India’s remarkable achievement as 24.82 crore people escape multidimensional poverty in the last 9 years, marking a substantial decline in the Multidimensional Poverty Index.

New Delhi, January 16, 2024 – In a resounding affirmation of the government’s dedication to fostering a prosperous future for every citizen, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi welcomed the findings of a Discussion Paper released by NITI Aayog on Multidimensional Poverty. The paper, which sheds light on India’s progress in alleviating poverty, indicates a remarkable decline in the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) from 29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% in 2022-23—a substantial reduction of 17.89%.

According to the report, this commendable achievement has led to 24.82 crore individuals escaping multidimensional poverty over the last 9 years. Prime Minister Modi, expressing his satisfaction with the positive trend, took to social media to underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive growth and transformative changes in the nation’s economy.
