New Delhi, January 20, 2024 – In a grand ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 in the vibrant city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister expressed his delight at the choice of Chennai as the host city, stating, “It is a matter of great joy that Khelo India Youth Games are being held in the beautiful city of Chennai.”
Highlighting the significance of the Khelo India Games, PM Modi declared, “Khelo India Games – A great way to start 2024.” He emphasized the rich sporting culture of Tamil Nadu, saying, “Tamil Nadu is a land that has produced champions,” acknowledging the state’s contribution to India’s sporting legacy.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of organizing mega sporting events in the country, stating, “Organization of mega sporting events is crucial for making India a top sporting nation.” He lauded the progress made in the sports sector, attributing it to the combined efforts of the government, athletes, and the transformation of the entire sports system in India over the past decade.
PM Modi paid tribute to the iconic Veera Mangai Velu Nachiyar, describing her as a symbol of women power. He noted, “Today her personality is reflected in many decisions of the government,” acknowledging the influence of her legacy on shaping policies that empower women in various spheres.
In a momentous declaration, the Prime Minister proclaimed, “Today, we are not waiting for youth to come to sports, we are taking sports to youth.” This statement reflects the government’s proactive approach in promoting sports at the grassroots level, aiming to nurture and discover young talents across the nation.
